Artsac’s mission is a very simple one.  Get paints, paper and pencils to a remote and rarely visited elementary school that resides outside the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan! We can do that.

Visual art is an integral part of a child’s education and painting and drawing are some of its most expressive and therapeutic forms.  This is especially true for children whose country has gone through years of upheaval and is still struggling to regain its legs.  Artsac reaches out to one group of southern Afghan elementary school children grades one through four - all 2,436 of them! Occasionally, we get lucky and collect enough to supply materials for grade five.
 

Artsac recently returned from Kandahar, Afghanistan where we delivered boxes of pastels and rolls of paper to grades one through four. Until this year, the children were being taught in tents but they are now given lessons in proper school buildings. The school’s resources are extremely limited.  There is no stored supply of pencils, paper or colors and so the materials received from Artsac go a long way.

Everyone at Artsac works as a volunteer so every dollar goes directly toward the purchase of art supplies. This is why the site looks so whacky. To avoid shipping costs, which would leave nothing for the supplies, we try to purchase all art materials in Afghanistan.
